My learning style

I’ve always known that I learn best when I read something or write something down to remember it. The VARK test made me realize how much of a difference there was between my learning through read/write compared to the others. The difference was nearly 15 points between read/write and hands on learning which was 2nd. Many times, throughout high school I would need to write my notes down rather than only listen to the teacher. Even if notes were not needed to be taken, I did anyways because that is the way I learn. I have to read or write my notes down to succeed in class. The biggest example of when I did this is in my biology class. The teacher had us print off a paper with blanks in the notes, but instead I would just write everything down. Which I did not do great in biology, but I did much better because of how I took my notes.

The way this will affect my future is the way I will allow my students to take notes and how they do their work. Such as some students would rather have a paper with fill in the blanks where as others like me would rather write everything down on their own. That way those who learn better through read/write can succeed and those who do not have an easier time writing then they can listen to what I have to say. Same as school work, what one of my teachers did is give three or four options for a final project. That way those who learn in whichever way can get a higher grade for that outcome. I believe that if a teacher has the time and resources to do so, it would be the most fair option for students to succeed.

When I did the TPI test I discovered that my beliefs and Intentions total were the highest and the same. I think this tells me that my teaching will be very driven by how I want the students to succeed. Another thing that I found interesting is my Nurturing total was the lowest. But I think that is mostly because I do not let my emotions get in the way of my decisions. There is always a time and place for emotions which can be during a work period in class but I do not think emotions should take over the content a teacher teaches to the students unless the students require more help.
