Assessment for learning: This assessment means an assessment that is mostly a reflection. This assessment in used to encourage self-evaluation and peer evaluation. This form of assessment is used to provide valuable feedback on yourself as a teacher as well as the students. As the learner can find motivation from said feedback. One way I have seen this type of assessment is in my French Immersion classes from grade 9-12, we did our own self-evaluation to see how we felt about our own development. This was useful as we could see how and where we would improve. As well as the teacher would be able to see where her students were during the time of self-reflection.
Assessment as learning: This style of assessment is where students self-evaluate. Students monitor their own learning, as well as find ways to use their knowledge to for new learning. Students will need to ask questions and well as use multiple strategies to do so. This encourages students to be more responsible and self-sufficient. This is a good example of some university classes. Especially those where students are required to do readings before the beginning of classes. Also, now with the corona virus, students need to be more on top of their work as the teacher is no longer there directly to remind students of work.
Assessment of learning: This is where teachers gives the students a grade at the end of a term or unit. The perks of this type of assessment is the teacher and students can see where each individual is in terms of knowledge. Teachers are able to see where to help certain students and where students are proficient. This is useful for students as well as they may see how they are doing in school are where they can improve. I have seen this in all of my classes since grade 1, since teachers give grades after tests and at the end of the year.
The way I would personally use all of these assessments is throughout the year I would give each type of assessment. At the beginning of the year I would give the students an assessment for learning, so they will be able to identify their goals and so I will be able to see how they want to do in the class. Also, so I can see their goals for the class, whether their reason to take the class is to get a credit or because they need it for something like university. I will then use assessment as learning just so students and I can see where everyone is at in terms of learnings and how they are feeling about the class. This could occur maybe 2-4 times per year. That way I will be able to stay on the same page as the students. As students can go through some life changing events and they may need more support in terms of learning. Finally, assessment of learning is simple. I will be giving quizzes and tests. Although each may have a different weight in terms of grades, it will be nice for students to see where they need to improve or where they are proficient.
